"The World's Fastest Indian" is based on the true life story of Munro, a New Zealander who set the land-speed world record at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats on a 1920 Indian motorcycle. Munro's record remains unbroken today.
Magnolia Pictures first released the film in select markets in December 2005. Distribution is growing nationwide, with more than 170 theaters slated by spring. Commercials for the film aired before and during the Super Bowl on February 5 reaching the big game's estimated 90 million viewers.
"Burt's story is one of dedication, passion and resilience - it's inspirational to people both in and outside the sports world," said Greg Shapleigh, senior vice president of marketing at Bell Powersports, the company's motorcycle division. "The film prominently features Bell helmets in some of the movie's most thrilling, high-speed scenes. We're proud to be a part of this historical event."
Bell provided period replica helmets and other products for the movie to help the film's producers and production company authentically re-create the record-setting scenes at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Bell invented the first protective auto racing helmet in 1954 and the first full- face motorcycle helmet in 1963. Bell Powersports now produces helmets for off-road, motocross, road racing and street riding, in addition to a wide variety of motorcycle accessories.
With a state-of-the-art research and design lab, Bell continues to design and manufacture innovative, high-performance helmets for the professional and recreational motorcycle rider. Stand-out riders such as Jeremy McGrath, Mike Metzger and the Team MotoworldRacing.com ride Bell helmets. Bell motorcycle helmets are available nationwide at leading motorcycle dealers and mass retail stores.
