DALLAS--Feb. 6, 2006--Renowned automotive manufacturer Unique Performance has teamed with Tecstar Automotive Group, a subsidiary of Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide to form a new joint venture, Unique Performance Concepts, that will manufacture limited edition high performance vehicles. The Chip Foose-designed 2006 Ford Stallion Mustang will be the first vehicle built by Quantam's Tecstar Automotive Group subsidiary under the agreement."The talented team at Unique Performance has been successful designing and building spectacular vehicles with top automotive icons based on vintage American muscle cars for the past several years," said Douglas Hasty, president of Unique Performance. "This JV with Quantum - Tecstar has increased our manufacturing capabilities to a level no small volume American builder has enjoyed. We can now offer custom high performance to a new clientele using current production vehicles."
The Foose-designed Mustang is already a hot commodity. The car will be included in promotions with top companies for campaigns centered around the NFL Super Bowl and 2006 NBA All Star Game.
SAM'S CLUB, the warehouse division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., is offering its members the rights to the first production car during an on-line auction held to celebrate Super Bowl XL. The Foose Mustang, with an MSRP of $42,000, went up for auction at www.samsclub.com, on Thursday, February 2, 2006, with a reserve price of US$25,000. Bidding quickly shot up to $80,100 and will continue at $100 increments through 5:00 p.m. CST Tuesday, February 7.
"SAM'S CLUB is pleased to offer this extraordinary piece of machinery," said Mark D. Goodman, SAM'S CLUB executive vice president, Marketing, Membership and E-Commerce. "When you think of the all-American car, Ford is top-of-mind. Chip Foose's design expertise combined with the prestige of the Ford brand and build quality of Unique Performance have enabled us to offer our Members a rare piece of automotive history that's sure to be enjoyed for years to come."
BF Goodrich will give away a customized edition of the Foose Mustang during the 2006 NBA All Star Game in Houston on February 19, 2006. The tire giant promoted this one-of-a-kind sports car during a national marketing campaign where the Mustang traveled from coast to coast, capturing the hearts of both the public and media. The custom Mustang also appeared with Mr. Foose in posters and a national advertising campaign.
The popularity of the car began to skyrocket on January 21, 2006, when the first Foose Mustang coupe was auctioned at the 35th Anniversary Barrett-Jackson "World's Greatest Collector Car Event." A private collector scooped up the pre-production car for $167,000. Production Foose Mustangs are scheduled to be available through select Ford dealerships nationwide in the summer of 2006.
