--AAA:WHAT: The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety will release the results of a first-of-its-kind study that determines how to increase booster seat use among parents and caregivers. The study answers the questions: What types of interventions work? What incentives could result in booster seat use increasing by more than 40 percent or even more than doubling? AAA will announce its solution to motivate parents and caregivers, which will include specific incentives, and highlight their efforts to improve child passenger safety laws. WHY: Car crashes are the leading cause of death for children with over 2,000 children 14 years and younger dying and nearly 300,000 injured each year. Child booster seats are designed for children 4-8 years old and are a known lifesaver when properly used with lap and shoulder belts. However, over 60 percent of parents and caregivers still do not use booster seats. WHO: Peter Kissinger, President and CEO, AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety Dr. Bill King, Professor, UAB Department of Pediatrics Susan Pikrallidas, AAA Vice President, Public Affairs A parent advocate whose use of a booster seat may have prevented serious injury to her child will share her personal story.
