SkyLynx Communications Announces Expansion of Proprietary Data Network to Greater Orlando Area; Automatic Vehicle Location Network to Cover 32,000 Square Miles with a Population over 5 Million
SARASOTA, Fla.--Feb. 2, 2006--SkyLynx Communications (OTC BB: SKYC), a worldwide provider of secure, high-availability, dedicated wireless data networks for fixed and mobile applications, announced today that it is expanding coverage of its proprietary data network to serve the greater Orlando metropolitan area under a contract for automatic vehicle location (AVL) services with one of the largest ambulance service providers in the country. The network will be used to provide unit location and status to more effectively dispatch their ambulance fleet. The information provided by the SkyLynx Network will be displayed directly on their Computer Aided Dispatch screens. This system has been proven to substantially improve response time, improve the customer's operating margins and even save lives. It is already been utilized in the greater Denver/Aurora and Seattle/Tacoma areas and is being deployed in Salem, Oregon.
Gary L. Brown, SkyLynx Chairman and CEO, stated, "SkyLynx continues to deploy its proprietary system to support the critical data communications needs of first responders across the country. Our wireless data network is also equally as useful for less critical applications such as fleet operations and industrial control and monitoring."
He continued, "The area to be built out in Orlando is approximately 32,000 square miles with a population of roughly 1.8 million people. This network is in a much larger area than our first service region in Denver, which was 5,000 square miles at inception, and as such, it demonstrates our capacity to undertake larger scale projects. This is a very attractive feature because the extensive range of our system minimizes the need for a massive infrastructure."
Brown also emphasized, "We have just begun to scratch the surface in this particular market, and the potential is enormous. For example, there are 312,000 police cars in the U.S., operating in fleets of 10 vehicles or more. The nation's 30,562 fire departments have around 80,000 fire trucks in use. We believe that lives can be saved with our system deployed because it can improve response time, thereby resulting in more efficient deployment of response groups."
Brown concluded, "Beyond emergency services, SkyLynx has numerous potential market applications. For example, there are approximately 75,000 active transit buses operated by 2,262 public transit agencies and 13,000 coaches in private hands. In addition, there are 171,000 taxis operating in the U.S. operated by some 63,000 companies. More than 80% of the companies operate less than 50 vehicles, while 6% have greater than 100 vehicles. There are over 435,000 buses that take approximately 23.5 million children to and from school, representing 55% of the K-12 population. And finally, there are about 4.2 million trucks in the U.S. Here, AVL provides customers with accurate arrival time, provides real-time routing instructions to drivers, dispatches buses to make nearby stops for paratransit operators; and monitors and records the performance of drivers."
Steven D. Smith, SkyLynx Chief Operating Officer commented, "The combination of our proprietary wireless data network with the products and services offered by DCI, an acquisition we are in the final stages of completing, puts SkyLynx in a unique position in the market. We can now offer a complete turn-key solution to the customer. For example, we can literally turn an ambulance into a rolling data processing center, resulting in full automation of the control of supplies and medications, elimination of paperwork (allowing the Paramedics to concentrate 100% on patient care) and allowing the ambulance to rapidly return to active duty. From initial feedback, we feel this strategic combination of products and ongoing data delivery will be key elements to our success in a number of high profile markets and applications."
