Country 93.9 KZLA to Broadcast NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Events on MRN During 2006 Season
KZLA Becomes First LA-Based FM Radio Station to Carry MRN Radio Broadcast
FONTANA, Calif., Feb. 1 -- California Speedway, Country 93.9 KZLA and Motor Racing Network (MRN) Radio today announced the first ever Los Angeles-based FM radio partnership to broadcast NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events throughout the Southern California region for the 2006 season.
KZLA, America's most listened to Country station, will carry live lap-by- lap coverage of 25 of the 36 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events, including the season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway; both the Auto Club 500 (February 26) and the SONY HD 500 (September 3) at California Speedway; and the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway in November. MRN Radio coverage of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series is broadcast by more than 480 affiliate stations nationwide.
"Los Angeles is one of the greatest media markets in the world and KZLA is one of the best programmed radio stations on the dial," said MRN Radio President David Hyatt. "To say we're excited to have Southern California listeners hear NASCAR racing from MRN Radio on KZLA is an understatement. The three-way partnership of KZLA, California Speedway and MRN Radio should provide Southern California race fans the most comprehensive radio coverage the market has ever had and introduce new fans to the sport."
Country 93.9 KZLA is America's most listened to Country station. More than 700,000 listeners tune in to the station every week. For more information on Country 93.9 KZLA, visit http://www.kzla.com/ .
"We realize the natural synergy that exists between country music and NASCAR," said KZLA Operations Manager RJ Curtis. "Everybody at KZLA is excited and proud of our new association with California Speedway and MRN Radio. We think this partnership is a golden opportunity for each of us to grow our brands in Southern California."
MRN Radio, which has been broadcasting NASCAR events since 1970, is the primary source for NASCAR stock car racing and related radio programming. Their award-winning play-by-play coverage of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is delivered via satellite to over 700 radio stations nationwide plus the American Forces Radio Network. This makes MRN Radio the largest independent sport radio network in America. For more information on MRN Radio, visit http://www.mrnradio.com/ .
California Speedway, the premier motorsports and entertainment venue on the West Coast, hosts two NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events annually (Auto Club 500 in February and SONY HD 500 in September). "Securing a top-notch MRN affiliate in the Los Angeles market has been a major priority for us. Our focus is to elevate the exposure of NASCAR in our region on a consistent basis throughout the year, not just during our events. Having an affiliate like KZLA will help drive the NASCAR and California Speedway brand in our market all season long," said California Speedway President Gillian Zucker. "At first glance, one may think NASCAR racing does not translate well to radio, but there is no more entertaining sport to listen to on the radio. The MRN team is unparalleled in calling racing action, but more importantly, they engage their listeners by providing quality insight and showcasing the driver's personalities, thus bringing the sport to life."
The West Coast Premiere of NASCAR takes place at California Speedway with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series 200-miler, NASCAR Busch Series Stater Bros. 300 and NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Auto Club 500 on February 24-26.
