Proficiency Joins the JT Open Program; Adding Support for the Widely-Adopted JT Format Further Enhances Proficiency's Unique Ability to Automate Design Interoperability for OEMs and Suppliers Worldwide
WALTHAM, Mass.--Jan. 3, 20061, 2006--Further expanding the range of its award-winning enterprise interoperability solutions, Proficiency has become a vendor member in the JT Open Program and is adding support for the 3D JT data format in the Company's next version of its Collaboration Gateway(TM) product. The JT Open Program is a worldwide community of leading manufacturers, solution providers and academic institutions supporting and promoting JT - a versatile 3D data format widely used throughout the global manufacturing industry to enable collaboration and innovation in the product development process. Today, OEMs and suppliers throughout the supply chain use many different leading design applications that produce a variety of formats, including JT. With the Collaboration Gateway, Proficiency's customers will now be able to automate the production of JT files and enhance their ability to protect intellectual property and product integrity in the exchange process, critical in global manufacturing today.
"JT has been widely adopted within the supply chain as a flexible, viewable format for 3D data and all the major CAD systems can produce 3D JT data files," said John Alpine, chief technology officer of Proficiency. "By adding JT support to the Collaboration Gateway, we are able to leverage our controlled and integrated architecture to automate the JT creation process across all the major CAD systems used by OEMs and suppliers. This will provide a tremendous value to our customers wishing to use JT in collaborative exchanges."
The Proficiency Collaboration Gateway is a Web-based, feature-level CAD interoperability software application that facilitates the sharing of product design information, including features, history, constraints, assembly structure, dimensions, and metadata, throughout the extended product lifecycle process. In addition to the JT file format which will be supported in the next release, the software enables companies to exchange native parametric CAD models between Dassault Systemes' CATIA(R) V4 and CATIA(R) V5, PTC's Pro/ENGINEER and Pro/ENGINEER(R) Wildfire(TM), and UGS' NX(TM) and I-deas(R) NX Series. The Collaboration Gateway is the only technology featuring an automated process to create models in a native environment and which meets the quality control standards of OEMs.
"The JT data format and the JT Open Program are helping manufacturers worldwide significantly improve their ability to collaborate throughout their product lifecycle process," said Mark Matousek, manager of the JT Open Program at UGS. "The addition of Proficiency to JT Open continues the program's global expansion and further strengthens JT Open's momentum."
About JT and JT Open
The JT Open Program is an initiative driven by global leaders that view PLM as a competitive advantage and have adopted the 3D JT data format as a standard. JT is a common 3D data format for enabling product visualization and information sharing between PLM software applications. The robust functionality and lightweight nature of JT technology makes it possible to view and share product data, manufacturing information and interactive images worldwide, in real-time and throughout all phases of the product lifecycle.
Membership in JT Open is available to any and all end user corporations, independent software vendors (ISVs), academic institutions and non-profit industry organizations. Some of the current JT Open members include UGS, General Motors, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Siemens, Renault, Visteon, Caterpillar, Autoweb, Bowers & Wilkins, DENSO, Asahi Electronics, Adobe, Altair Engineering, Bentley, PTC, Alias, SGI, Theorem, Opticore, Polyplan, Proficiency, Landmark, Spicer, Realtime Technology, and Actify as well as academic members Brigham Young University, Technical University Darmstadt, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the University of Michigan.
In addition, many other companies that derive indirect value from the initiative participate as JT Open advocates. JT Open advocates include HP, Intel, Microsoft, SAP, Capgemini and Elysium.
