STORY SUMMARY:
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is asking Texans to "Put Texas in your Corner" with a new campaign reminding vehicle owners about the importance of vehicle registration.
Research shows that many vehicle owners don't register because they forget, procrastinate or don't know the registration process in Texas. The state loses an estimated $43.2 million a year because of Texas vehicle owners' failure to register on time. New residents, unfamiliar with state registration laws, cost Texas another estimated $40 million in lost revenue. That's money not being used for critical transportation projects, such as building and maintaining highways and bridges.
All owners of cars, motorcycles and trailers need to register their vehicles by either: * Visiting their county tax assessor-collector's office * Registering by mail * Registering online at http://www.texasonline.com/ * In some counties, subcontractor locations are available
New Texas residents have 30 days to register their vehicles. For information on how to register in your county, go to http://www.texasinyourcorner.com/ or call 512.465.7611.
