Granite Energy to Sponsor FASCAR Pro Truck Entry; Donald Davis, Vice President, to Drive

LAKELAND, Fla., Jan. 26, 2006 -- Granite Energy (OTC Pink Sheets: GNGI) will sponsor the Number 16 King Racing Chevrolet Truck in this weekend's SPEEDFEST 2006 at USA International Speedway, near Lakeland, Florida. The event is the season opener for the FASCAR (Florida Association of Stock Car Racing) 2006 Pro Truck Series. Donald Davis, Vice President of Granite Energy, will drive.

Davis, who has three years of racing experience, will be supported by a pit crew of experienced racing team members. After taking a hiatus in 2005, he was persuaded to return to drive by Tommy King, well-known chassis builder and former FAST TRUCK series champion driver. "I have always enjoyed racing against Tommy," said Davis, "and I hope his knowledge of chassis setup helps us run up front." Davis will be assigned the number -- 16 -- used by one of King's Pro Truck entries in 2005, a Ford truck. However, he will be competing in a Chevrolet, which was a multi-race winner for King Racing last year.

Pro Truck Series trucks in FASCAR, according to Davis, are based on Chevrolet, Ford or Dodge models. Rules allow chassis modifications and engine modifications, but are limited in several respects to keep costs down. A truck such as Davis will run is based on a General Motors "metric" chassis. This features the front clip from a traditional front-engine chassis coupled with a fabricated rear chassis and suspension. Tires are Goodyear Short Track Specials, eight inches wide, with four grooves.

A 350 cubic inch Chevy crate motor coupled to a GM 350 Turbo transmission and a standard GM rear end constitutes the power train. Carburetion is limited to a two-barrel. "We use a Holley 500 cfm two-barrel carb," Davis said. "The engine is putting out somewhere around 350 to 400 horsepower, and it takes a lot of $5 a gallon, 112 octane gas to feed those horses."

With that configuration, Davis estimated the trucks would be doing about 125 mph on the straightaway. "We'll run a lap time there of about 24 seconds," he said. That works out to an average lap speed of about 113 mph.

Practice is scheduled for Thursday. Pro Trucks will have the opportunity to qualify and compete in 50-lap races on the 3/4-mile high-banked oval track on both Friday and Saturday. "This is the premier short track race in Florida," said Davis.

The Pro Trucks will compete in 50-lap races on the 3/4-mile high-banked oval track on both Friday and Saturday nights in conjunction with the North vs. South Super Late Model races. "SpeedFest really kicks off the racing season in Florida, and Lakeland is Florida's premier short track. Some of the NASCAR guys come here for testing," said Davis. "The racing is fast and exciting. With Daytona a short distance away and NASCAR Speedweek just around the corner, we expect to see a lot of race fans in the stands this weekend."

All racing divisions are scheduled to practice Thursday night to fine-tune setups for the weekend of racing. Prior to both Friday and Saturday feature races, drivers of all qualified vehicles will sign autographs at their cars on the track. A free baseball cap with the Granite Energy logo will be given out to the first 100 fans to get Donald's autograph at the pre-race autograph and photo sessions. This pre-race autograph signing session is always a big hit with fans.

FASCAR's Pro Truck Series runs through November, when a points leader will be crowned champion. Davis, who lives in Florida, indicated he would not compete in all of the scheduled Pro Truck Series races in FASCAR for 2006, but would plan to participate in a few select races. "I'll probably race at New Smyrna," he said. "And Maybe Orlando (June 16) and Ocalla (Sept. 23)."
