Teens and Parents Invited to View GEICO 'Real Teen Driving' DVD January 25

Guest speakers to include state highway safety officials

BETHESDA, Md., Jan. 24 -- Local teenagers and parents can get a close up look at how teens really drive when GEICO presents its "Real Teen Driving" DVD and teen safe driving program on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 7 p.m. at Walt Whitman High School, 7100 Whittier Blvd, Bethesda, Md., 20817.

GEICO, with parental permission, videotaped four Washington D.C. area high school students with in-car cameras for several months to see how well, or how poorly, they really did drive. The DVD captures some classic mistakes made by young drivers, and the teens that appear on the DVD are featured as they get a chance to see and evaluate their own driving experiences. GEICO produced the DVD without any scripted material. All of the conversations and driving sequences appear just as they took place.

Participating in GEICO's Real Teen Driving safety panel on Jan. 25 are a local police officer from the Alcohol Enforcement Bureau, a representative from the Motor Vehicle Authority, and Assistant Vice President John Pham, of the GEICO claims department. Pham will discuss several issues about insuring new drivers, including when and how to insure a teen driver, what to do in the event of an accident, and how to keep insurance premiums lower by driving safely.

GEICO took on the "Real Teen Driving" project to alert teens to their driving behaviors, which have put young drivers in the highest risk driving category in the nation. In fact, the number one killer of young drivers, age 16-20, is auto accidents.
