Sauter/Pearson Prep for Preseason NASCAR Busch Test

Sauter/Pearson Prep for Preseason Test
Veteran Driver and Crew Chief Aim for Top of Speed Charts

As the 2006 racing season approaches, the Busch Series cars,
including the #36 McGill Motorsports/Lester Buildings Chevy, are
finally headed to Daytona for three days of testing beginning on
January 20. Veteran Busch Series driver Tim Sauter and McGill
Motorsports crew chief Ricky Pearson will get their first runs
together at the high banks of the Daytona Motor Speedway as the
NASCAR Busch Series concludes the first round of Nascar Preseason
Thunder testing.
Following two straight seasons in which the #36 team finished in the
top 30 in points, expectations for 2006 are running high. After
several months of preparation on the two cars that will see the track
for the first time this weekend, the team is anxious to get
underway. “We only race the speedway cars at Daytona and Talledega
but more hours of fabrication and finesse go into these two cars than
any other in our stable?? states Pearson. “Aerodynamics play such
a big part in this type of racing, and the aero-package that we use
at these tracks is so different from the package used at the rest of
the tracks, it takes a whole different approach in the shop when
you’re building these cars. The slightest change in the cowl area
can mean a lot of horsepower lost or gained, the attention to detail
in these cars is just unbelievable.??
Sauter has made several trips to the team’s Spartanburg, SC shop to
help the crew. “Flying south from Wisconsin to help is tough but
it’s really good for the team. I now know the guys a whole lot
better than when we ran last year at Miami and we’re building a lot
of trust in each other.?? Handling is a big part of going fast at
Daytona so the team is bringing multiple sets of suspension
components to test. “Once we get to Daytona, you don’t get a lot
of track time before qualifying.?? Sauter said. “There are a lot of
things you can do here in testing that you just don’t get time for
when you show up to race in February, so we need to get a good feel
for what these cars want.??
Another big factor in this weekend’s tests will be the new
powerplants from Carl Wegner. The team has spent a lot of time with
header and exhaust designs per Carl’s recommendation. “I have
been impressed with how he is working with us to get every last bit
of performance from his motors. We will see how we stack up with
this new package when we get to Daytona,?? Pearson said.
The Daytona test will also be the first time the team hits the track
with its new name and colors. Car owners John and Nancy McGill
recently changed the team name from DCT to McGill Motorsports.
Commenting on the change, McGill said, “Taking another positive step
with a veteran driver like Tim and pairing him with a winner like
(crew chief) Ricky Pearson gives us the most potent combination yet.
And having a good sponsor like Lester Buildings just made this the
right time change the name to better reflect what our team is all
about.?? The #36 Chevy Monte Carlos will sport a new, aggressive
silver paint scheme with black and orange accents under the Lester
Buildings banner for 25 of the 35 races on the Busch Series
schedule. Lester will be an associate sponsor in the other ten
events. McGill Motorsports is actively seeking primary sponsorships
for the remaining ten events with the first available race being the
Stater Bros. 300 at California Speedway on February 25.

McGill Motorsports has also launched an updated website at
www.mcgillmotosports.com.
