Baca and Windham forge alliance for 2006
David Baca, driver and owner of the Baca Motorsports Top Fuel entry on
the POWERade Drag Racing Series, has announced an alliance will Bill
Windham, owner of the Big O Tires A/Fuel Dragster entry on the NHRA
Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series driven by his brother, Joe Windham. The
new alliance will be called Baca and Windham Motorsports.
"For 2006, it made sense for us to pool our resources together, and
merge the teams" said Baca. "Bill has proved in short order that he is a
force to be reckoned with on both the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series
and the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. We have a number of different
companies we are working with and our sponsors will reap the benefits of
advertising on both race cars. Bill and I have very similar ambitions in
regards to growing the team and adding more race cars. I am really
looking forward to the 2006 season."
"My partner Greg Mitchell and I had been chatting with Mike Henkelman
over at One Accord Marketing about an action plan for our A Fuel team to
graduate to Top Fuel," said Windham. "He encouraged me to take a closer
look at David's program. Greg and I spent some time with David at the
Auto Club Finals and we were definitely impressed. This is a top cabin
crew with the best parts and resources available. I was impressed with
David as a driver and a spokesman, and he clearly has my taste in crew
chiefs. After the race, I had no doubt that our future in motorsports
was as a single unit. I am excited, Big O Tires and Mach One Air
Services are excited, and we look forward to running hard in 2006."
Rick Henkelman has been named crew chief for both race cars. "The
landscape of Top Fuel and A Fuel is changing for 2006 based on rule
changes to both classes. We hope to come out of the gate strong with
both race cars. I handled the tuning duties for both cars at the Auto
Club Finals in Pomona, and with the help of guys like Kevin Poynter and
Garrett Bateman, I have no doubt that we have more then enough talent to
go around for 2006," said Henkelman.
