Freescale and ViewSonic Showcase Future of Digital Signage Technology at CES; PowerQUICC(TM) II Processor Powers ViewSonic Network Display Solution Designed to Deliver Video-Over-IP Content to Commercial and Public Settings

LAS VEGAS--Jan. 5, 2006--Freescale Semiconductor and ViewSonic(R) Corp., a worldwide visual display leader, are jointly demonstrating advanced digital signage display technology developed by ViewSonic. Showcased at Freescale's booth (#30718) at the Consumer Electronics Show, the ViewSonic network display solution integrates the latest innovations in semiconductor, large-screen visual display and Internet Protocol (IP) networking technology. The solution can directly decode video over the Internet and offers the ability to remotely manage content via the Internet from anywhere in the world.

According to iSuppli Corporation, the worldwide market for signage and professional displays was valued at $11.5 billion in 2005 and is expected to grow to $14.8 billion in 2009. Digital signage display solutions from innovators like ViewSonic provide a dynamic, versatile and cost-effective alternative to print content. Access to broadband networks makes the Internet an ideal pipeline for delivery of IP-based content to digital displays, while highly integrated silicon solutions from industry leaders like Freescale Semiconductor help reduce system cost and enhance content-processing performance.

ViewSonic has chosen Freescale's MPC8270 PowerQUICC(TM) II communications processor, based on a PowerPC(R) core, to provide the embedded intelligence for the network display solution. By leveraging the integrated control- and data-plane processing capabilities of the PowerQUICC device, the solution can provide remote display monitoring and control across enterprise and retail networks -- without the cost and complexity of using personal computers to drive each display.
