Synchronizing Digital Media Between the Car and Home
LAS VEGAS--Jan. 4, 2006--mobileGT(TM) Alliance Unites Freescale's MPC5200 Development Platform With SimpleDevices' SimpleWare(R) Auto Embedded Digital Media Software |
Freescale Semiconductor and SimpleDevices, Inc., a subsidiary of Universal Electronics have teamed up to deliver an innovative mobileGT(TM) reference platform for advanced automotive digital media player development.
The technology bundle combines Freescale's MPC5200 platform based on the PowerPC(R) core and SimpleDevices' award-winning SimpleWare Auto embedded software. The companies will demonstrate the solution in the Universal Electronics booth (#21561, South Hall) at CES 2006, Jan. 5 - 8.
"Freescale's leadership in the processor market, combined with SimpleDevices' feature-rich software, allows our customers to introduce a wide range of best-in-class digital media music/photo/video solutions for the automotive market," said Paul Arling, chairman and chief executive officer at Universal Electronics. "Our relationship with Freescale represents our commitment to introduce complete and highly integrated hardware and software platforms to help our customers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), original design manufacturers (ODMs) and tier-1 suppliers get to market fast."
The collaborative solution is designed to shorten development cycles and accelerate time-to-market for solutions developed around the MPC5200 embedded processor, based on the PowerPC architecture. The mobileGT reference platform with the SimpleWare Auto embedded software is complete with a wide variety of I/O and the hardware necessary to develop scalable software solutions for advanced digital media players.
"The convergence of digital media between the car and home is occurring rapidly," said Anand Ramamoorthy, general manager of Freescale's Infotainment, Multimedia and Telematics Division. "Teaming with Universal Electronics extends the mobileGT platform's advanced digital media capabilities to allow simultaneous playing/ripping of music in the car, support for multiple portable media players and network synchronization of the home PC with the car."
Target applications
Target applications include digital music/photo/video source units, digital media players integrated with GPS navigation systems and automatic, intelligent synchronization of media between automotive units and home PCs via USB and wireless IEEE 802.11(TM) Wi-Fi(R) connections. These types of applications will be among those covered by Freescale and other industry representatives during CES' "Opportunities in In-Vehicle Entertainment" panel session scheduled for Jan. 5, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. in the Las Vegas Convention Center, North Hall (N258).
