Hurricane Katrina Evacuees Move into Louisiana
AURORA, Ontario, Dec. 13, 2005 -- Magna International Inc. (Magna) announced today that Hurricane Katrina evacuees who were guests at Magna Entertainment Corp.'s (MEC) Palm Meadows Training Center in Florida from September 4, 2005, through November 4, 2005, began moving into a new village built by Magna, with the assistance of MI Developments Inc. (MID), near Simmesport, Louisiana today.
In addition to Magna, MEC, MID, and a number of corporations and organizations, including the American Red Cross, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Canadian Red Cross, Dickinson Wright PLLC, NORR Limited, Giffels Associates Ltd., Con Drain Partners Inc., Air Canada, the Canadian Auto Workers, the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, IBM Corporation, Sharp Electronics Corporation, St. John Ambulance Canada and others have contributed to various aspects of building the new community.
"I'd like to thank all the organizations and people who contributed to this project in a very short time frame. The second part of this journey is now complete and I wish the evacuees well as they begin their new lives in this community," said Magna Chairman Frank Stronach.
The community will hold a holiday celebration and open house on December 17, 2005, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
