American Tire Distributors Expands in Salt Lake City

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 9, 2005 -- American Tire Distributors, Inc. (ATD), one of the nation's largest independent suppliers of tires, wheels, equipment and related supplies to the replacement tire market, significantly expanded its Salt Lake City presence today. ATD relocated their Salt Lake City operations into a new state-of-the-art distribution center in the Ninigret Complex located at 1815 South 4650 West. The 115,000-square-foot facility will nearly quadruple ATD's distribution capacity by replacing the previous 30,000-square-foot distribution center at 3960 South 300 West.

"Our new ATD distribution center is a bricks-and-mortar example of our commitment to our dealers in the Utah market," said Richard P. "Dick" Johnson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American Tire Distributors. "Our dealers will have the ability to access a much broader array of products and brands over the coming months, not only in terms of tires, but also the exciting and growing custom wheel business, tires supplies, and equipment," Johnson said.

The new distribution center will utilize a warehouse management system that will improve the accuracy of inventories and enable ATD to more efficiently receive and ship products. American Tire Distributors will also implement a computerized routing system with GPS receivers on all delivery trucks to permit tracking of orders from door to door.

"The combination of this new distribution center facility and the hard- working, customer-focused team of colleagues that joined ATD from Wholesale Tire makes me very optimistic about our future in the Inter-Mountain West market," Johnson said.

In August, American Tire Distributors, headquartered in Charlotte, purchased Wholesale Tire Distributors, Inc., Wholesale Tire Distributors of Wyoming, Inc., and Wholesale Tire Distributors of Idaho, Inc. The three previous Wholesale Tire distribution centers, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, Casper, Wyoming, and Boise, Idaho, now operate under the American Tire Distributors name.
