Sacla' Fiat Goes for Record Amount to Save the Children

Sacla', renowned pesto and pasta sauce producer, donated one of their famed classic Italian Fiat 500 cars to the Save the Children Ball held at the Natural History Museum last night and it raised a staggering GBP24,000.00.

The evening attended by the President, HRH The Princess Royal was to raise money for the charity whose principal aim is to fight for children in the UK and around the world who suffer from poverty, disease, injustice and violence.

The vegetable decorated Fiat Cinquecento took pride of place on the steps of the museum as guests arrived and was the principal gift on the "Food for Thought" tree designed by Shelley Thomas. There were twelve trees in total which were all auctioned during the course of the evening

Bids were flying in for the Fiat and after a final flurry of last minute attempts Hugh Edmeades of Christies took to the hammer.

The 32 year old Fiat has previously toured the UK and Italy alongside the Sacla' fleet of classic Fiats. However the cars are now destined for worthy causes across the country. Earlier this year one of the Fiats raised GBP10,000.00 for the Child Bereavement Trust and it is hoped that the remainder of the cars will continue to assist charities elsewhere.
