Robert Wickens wins FBMW division at Race of Champions
PARIS, FRANCE Cameron Motorsports lead driver Robert Wickens has won the
Formula BMW division race at the Race of Champions, held this past
weekend in Paris, France.
The event featured 22 of the best race drivers in the world including four
time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon, and current World Rally Champion
Sebastien Loeb.
The invitational Formula BMW race featured four Formula BMW drivers
representing the four regional series; Germany, UK, Asia and USA. The event
was held at the Stade de France in Paris in front of more than 50,000
spectators using the Race of Champions head-to-head format.
"It was incredible to get an invitation to this event," Wickens said before
leaving for France. Wickens made the most of the trip, by first beating the
Formula BMW Asian Champion, then defeating the UK Formula BMW champion in
the final.
His win was a triple honour by not only coming home the champion but also
meeting the milestone of the youngest competitor in the ROC followed by the
first Canadian to compete in this prestigious event.
"I really wanted to make the most of this opportunity," Wickens said. "It
was a great experience, and to be able to stop on top of the bridge and
hear the crowd cheer was amazing."
Wickens returned to Canada on Monday, and will now leave for Bahrain, for
the Formula BMW World Finals on Friday, which take place from Dec 13th to
16th. "All of us at Cameron Motorsports are really proud of Robert," said
Cameron Motorsports' Bob Cameron. "I have full confidence in his ability to
bring home another championship from Bahrain. The kid has true talent!"
Ecstatic from his victory Wickens stated "I am so amazed by what has taken
place this weekend I would just like to thank BMW Motorsport for this
opportunity and to Cameron Motorsports for their ongoing support and
encouragement. For more information on the Race of Champions, visit
