Nissan develops paint that removes light scratches on cars
TOKYO December 3, 2005; Japan Today reported that Nissan Motor Co said Friday it has developed a paint technology that is capable of automatically repairing light scratches made to the surface of an automobile. The clear paint, reputedly the first of its kind in the world, is made of highly elastic resin, which prevents scratches from affecting the inner layers of an automobile's painted surface, according to the automaker.
The paint, called the "Scratch Guard Coat," enables a scratched surface to return to its original state on its own, with the process taking one to seven days depending on temperatures and the scratch's depth, it said. The paint gives automobiles higher levels of resistance to scratches caused by car-washing machines than those of conventional types of paint, the automaker says.
