Jeff Taylor, "2005 Canadian Technician of the Year"

GRAND BLANC, MICH. November 30, 2005; ACDelco congratulates Jeff Taylor, an automotive service technician at Eccles Auto Service, Inc., in Dundas, Ontario, Canada, on being named Canadian Technician Magazine’s “2005 Canadian Technician of the Year.” Eccles Auto Service is an ACDelco Total Service Support (TSS) account.

Selected from 42 nominees, Taylor received the prestigious award that recognizes the accomplishments and work ethic of automotive repair and service professionals. As the “2005 Canadian Technician of the Year,” Taylor wins C$5,000 in cash plus C$10,000 in prizes ranging from power tools, to home entertainment equipment, to a deluxe professional tool storage cabinet. Additionally, he was honored at a gala ceremony at Legendary Motorcar Company in Milton, Ontario, Canada.

“He’s gone from pumping gas in 1984 to top technician in 2005,” said Bruce Eccles, owner of Eccles Auto Service, who nominated Taylor. “He’s a hard worker and a truly gifted technician.”

Taylor began his automotive career as a gas jockey at Eccles Auto Service in 1984 and showed promise as a repair technician. Within months he began his apprenticeship to become licensed. Soon he was taking on the toughest diagnostic challenges, and becoming proficient on high-tech engine scan tools.

“This is really incredible,” Taylor said upon being notified of his win. “I feel so honored to be given this award because it’s a judgment of your peers, and an assessment of who you are, both as a technician and as a person. That’s really something.”

In addition to receiving the magazine’s award, Taylor is a two-time finalist in ACDelco’s “Technician of the Millennium” competition. In 2001, he placed first the Central Ontario, Canada region and advanced to the finals in North Carolina. He again placed first in his region in 2003 to advance to the finals in Las Vegas.

“The Canadian Technician of the Year competition celebrates the automotive technician as a whole person – highly skilled, well-trained, customer-oriented, and community-minded,” said Canadian Technician editor Allan Janssen. “Jeff is an example of the kind of technician consumers deserve. Not only is he incredibly competent and intuitive, he provides excellent customer service, and is active in his community.”
