Flexcar Announces ''Drive in Five'' Campaign; New Downtown Seattle Cars Mean Your Flexcar is Never More Than Five Minutes Away; Company Offers Special ''Drive in Five'' Deal -- Free Membership for Those Who Join and Drive in Five Weeks

SEATTLE--Nov. 3, 20050, 2005--Flexcar announces its new five-minute promise for Seattle: effective today, Flexcar now has enough locations so that -- wherever you are in downtown Seattle -- you are never more than a five minute walk from a vehicle. To commemorate this milestone, the company has launched a Drive in Five promotion. New members who join before New Year's eve and take a trip within five weeks will qualify for a free application and free membership for the first year. Details are available on the Flexcar website at www.flexcar.com/seattle.

Flexcar's innovative program provides its members with on-demand access to a fleet of low emission vehicles, including gas/electric hybrids, pickup trucks, all-wheel drive "crossovers" and minivans located throughout Seattle and King County. Members reserve the vehicles for hourly use with Flexcar covering the cost of the car, gas, parking, insurance and maintenance. Paying by the hour, members can enjoy the freedom of car ownership without the hassles and costs.

Locally, the fleet now stands at more than 150 vehicles en route to nearly 175 by year's end. Included in the new vehicles are several Honda Elements, the wildly popular multi-purpose vehicles. There are more than 14,000 individual and business members of Flexcar in the region, including some of its largest employers such as Starbucks Coffee Company, Nintendo, the University of Washington and Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center, to name a few. Nationally, Flexcar operates in seven major metro areas, including Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Washington, D.C. and Chicago.

"When you see the number of locations we have and compare it to similar services known for their convenience, you realize just how convenient Flexcar really is," said Jamie Cheney, the general manager of Flexcar's Seattle region. "We've got about the same number of locations as your favorite coffee shop or branches of your personal bank. I've spent more time waiting for an elevator than getting to one of our cars."

The soaring cost of gas has transit ridership on the rise, and with costs for insurance and parking continuing to increase, more and more people are considering the true cost of owning a car. They're turning to Flexcar to give them convenient and cost-effective access to a vehicle without the cost and hassles of ownership.

Since launching the US carsharing industry in 1998, Flexcar has since won numerous awards and commendations for reducing congestion, air pollution and energy use, and increasing use of public transit while contributing to sustainable communities. Research from Flexcar as well as independent entities has clearly shown that carsharing programs take cars off the road, reduce annual miles traveled and increase the use of public transit. These studies indicate that roughly 60 percent of members have either sold or decided not to purchase a vehicle because of the program, thus removing thousands of vehicles and thousands of tons of emissions from circulation.
