Mando Completes Successful Implementation of PTC Windchill(R) to Create Advanced PLM System; Reinforces critical production competitiveness and achieves real-time collaboration through the implementation of Web-based PLM
NEEDHAM, Mass.--Nov. 2, 20058, 2005--PTC , the Product Development Company(TM) today announced that Mando Corporation, Korea's largest automotive parts manufacturer, has successfully completed implementation of Windchill, to create an advanced Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. Mando supplies auto parts for 3.5 million vehicles annually. These parts are key auto components such as brake systems, steering systems, suspension systems, and chassis modules, as well as the latest safety systems such as ABS, ESP, ECS and EPS. Mando customers include leading automakers such as GM, Ford, Daimler Chrysler and Hyundai Motor Co.Mando implemented Windchill as a PLM system in order to strengthen the real-time collaboration infrastructure between domestic and overseas development centers, plants, affiliates and foreign investors. Mando selected Windchill PDMLink(TM) and Windchill ProjectLink(TM) in order to overcome problems stemming from the maintenance of their existing six-year old product data management (PDM) system. By implementing this solution from PTC, the company aims to achieve the following goals:
- A complete migration from their existing PDM system to a Web-based PLM system. -- Implementation of the 'Design Anywhere, Build Anywhere' platform for a global environment. -- Maximized R&D competitiveness and productivity. - Implementation of a pilot system and its expansion to each business office. - Implementation of standardized product life cycle processes. - Implementation of a collaboration environment for domestic and overseas partners and foreign investors.
In total, 1,300 employees will be using the system, with the number of users expected to continue growing. By innovatively improving productivity in R&D through the Windchill system, Mando is estimating an annual cost reduction of approximately USD 6 million. Mando also anticipates that these productivity increases and cost reductions will dramatically improve in the future when the system serves as a single core network for global product development in the U.S., China, and other locations.
The implementation of PTC's PLM system has triggered dramatic improvements in the overall product development and product management process. While Mando's previous solution offered simple sharing and management of basic information for PDM such as technical documents, drawings, and bill of material (BOM), PTC's Web-based solution provides additional capabilities. By extending the company's basic product development system to include purchasing, product technology, quality control, marketing, and realizing the product management system function, the PTC system has enabled Mando to decrease its R&D costs.
Mando chose PTC not only because Windchill had been endorsed by a variety of customers but it also offered a number of key capabilities such as Web-based operation and collaboration, which the company's previous solution supplier could not provide. Additionally, PTC had experience migrating customers that shared Mando's previous PDM system to Windchill.
"Worldwide collaboration has become a critical component for today's manufacturing companies. With independent suppliers scattered throughout the world, the significance of sharing information has increased. PTC Windchill PDMLink and ProjectLink are the best solutions to meet that demand," said Sang-Hwa Yoon, vice president of Mando Corporation. "Windchill enables us to systematically manage the background of new product development information and to share more information in less time. We expect that the PLM system will help Mando develop core competitiveness through critical areas such as lead time and cost reduction and design quality enhancement."
"The automotive industry and its suppliers are under constant competitive pressures to develop reusable components that can reduce the cost and production time of vehicles. Mando is a superior auto parts manufacturer and we are proud that PTC is their strategic PLM partner," said Dhiren Verma, director of automotive marketing and strategy, PTC. "Mando has implemented a strategic PLM system that will allow them to continue to improve their overall competitiveness by producing their renowned high-quality products more quickly and efficiently."
