2006 REGIONAL MIDGET SERIES ANNOUNCED 16 WEDNESDAYS, 3
FRIDAYS AT ANDERSON, NEW CASTLE
NOVEMBER 28, 2005
New venues highlight the 2006 USAC Regional Midget Series
schedule announced today by the United States Auto Club and Don Kenyon, who
will serve as the race organizer for the 19-race slate of events for
Midgets, Kenyon Midgets and Ford Focus Midgets.
Anderson (Ind.) Speedway and Mount Lawn Speedway in New
Castle, Ind. will host the weekly racing programs, which encompass 16
Wednesday nights, plus three Friday night Anderson appearances. Venues are
still being sought for two "yet to be announced" dates.
The Anderson and Mount Lawn ovals are not new to the USAC
calendar and not new to the "regional" concept of USAC racing. Anderson
hosted "regional" Midget races in 1996 and 1997 won by Michael Lewis and
Mel Kenyon, while Mount Lawn hosted a half-dozen total races in 1999 and
2000, won by Michael Lang, David Fuhrman, Rick Treadway (2) and Daryl
Campbell (2).
The 2006 series debuts May 3 at the Anderson Speedway and
concludes at Anderson on September 8. Feature events are expected to be 30
laps at Anderson's 1/4-mile paved oval and 40 laps at Mount Lawn's
3/10-mile pavement. The July 7, August 18 and September 8 programs at
Anderson will feature only Kenyon Midgets.
Defending series champions are Brad Kuhn of Avon, Ind.
(Midgets), Jonathan Hendrick of McCordsville, Ind. (Kenyon Midgets) and
Jamie Williams of Columbus, Ind. (Ford Focus Midgets).
Kenyon, a nine-time USAC National Midget Car Owner Champion
from Lebanon, Ind., is excited about the prospects of the series. "It was
time to expand the horizons," he says. Both Rick Dawson at Anderson and
Rick Sweigart at Mount Lawn (the track organizers), are supportive of this
venture and have offered their assistance, so I'm pumped."
Kenyon owns 92 USAC National Midget feature wins, while his
brother Mel is the winningest USAC Midget driver of all time, with 111
National victories. They have been actively involved in USAC events for
more than 45 years and Don adds: "I think I know both ends of this business
and that should help make this series successful."
Kenyon also stated "we also have a new Hoosier tire which
should allow for more interchange between sanctioning clubs in the Midwest.
Being a promoter is somewhat a new experience for me, with the exception of
some Kenyon-Car events in recent years, but with the support I've already
received I'm not worried about it at all."
