MTA Chairman, DaimlerChrysler Will Celebrate Commitment to Cleaner, Smarter, More Efficient New York Transit
New York City, which has taken the lead on reducing emissions, fuel consumption, noise and operating costs by deploying the world's largest hybrid diesel-electric transit bus fleet, will more than double this fleet by the end of 2007 thanks to a recent order with Orion Bus Industries, a DaimlerChrysler Commercial Buses North America (DCCBNA) subsidiary.
The new order will increase the city's hybrid bus fleet from 325 to 825 units, with an option for an additional 389 buses.
Elected and appointed officials from the city, state and federal government will join representatives of DCCBNA to celebrate this commitment to improving New Yorkers quality of life through cleaner, smarter and more efficient transit at a program November 29 hosted by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
