3 SEEK WESTERN SPRINT TITLE THURSDAY IN "TURKEY NIGHT" FINALE AT IRWINDALE

NOVEMBER 21, 2005

Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. leads a trio of drivers
competing for the 2005 Valvoline USAC Western Sprint Car Championship into
Thursday night's series finale at Irwindale, Calif. The race is part of the
64th "Turkey Night Grand Prix" program.

Swanson leads Tim Barber of San Francisco, Calif. by 39 points
and Mike Murgoitio of Meridian, Idaho by 43 points with 66 available
Thursday. Swanson fared the best of the three in last year's Irwindale
finale, taking seventh behind race winner Michael Lewis.

Lewis holds the 1-lap Irwindale record of 16.378 seconds and
appears to be a favorite again this year, having won the past two years,
but the battle for the championship could offer a challenge to his
Irwindale supremacy. Lewis won the 2003 Western Sprint Car championship.

Swanson is the son of former USAC Supermodified standout Mike
Swanson.

Thursday night's Sprint car feature race will be 40 laps
around Irwindale's 1/2-mile paved oval.
