Nissan selects team to build new HQ

TOKYO November 21, 2005; Japan Today reported that Nissan Motor Co said Monday it has chosen a team of an architect and two major construction contractors to design and construct its new head office to be built in Yokohama. Architect Yoshio Taniguchi and Takenaka Corp will design the building and Shimizu Corp will undertake the construction, the automaker said.

Last year, Nissan announced it will relocate most of its head office functions and personnel to Yokohama from Tokyo by 2010. At least 2,000 of Nissan's 3,000 employees based at the Tokyo head office will move to the 78,500-square-meter Yokohama office. Locating its headquarters in Yokohama will allow Nissan to collaborate more closely with its existing facilities in Kanagawa Prefecture and key suppliers and business partners, Nissan said in a statement.
