Volo Auto Museum to Sell the Grinch's Sleigh and More

VOLO, Ill., Nov. 21, 2005 -- The sleigh that Jim Carrey piloted in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," a strand of Abraham Lincoln's hair, an amphibious Russian tank, and other rare pieces usually reserved for museums could find their way under your tree this holiday season.

For only the second time in its 45-year history, the world famous Volo Auto Museum, in Volo, IL, is selling off a significant portion of its private collection.

"With over 300 antique and muscle cars, plus all of the famous Hollywood cars, our five showrooms are packed," Museum President Greg Grams said. "We need to make room for new exhibits."

The museum's vault contains about 100 items, including the General Lee stunt car from the summer blockbuster, "The Dukes of Hazzard," eight cars from "The Fast and the Furious," the van featured in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," and a Huey H-1 helicopter.

In addition to famous vehicles, the vault contains antique kiddie rides, authentic movie and television props, and other rare museum artifacts, including an actual electric chair from a New York prison.

Prices range from $5,000 for the robot costume from "RoboCop " to nearly $1 million for a 1937 Bugatti convertible coupe.

The vault will be opened to the press on Nov. 22. Invited guests will receive a special viewing on Nov. 23. The vault will be opened to the general public and its contents will be made available for purchase Online at http://www.volostarcars.com/ on Nov. 25.

The Volo Auto Museum is located at 27582 W. Volo Village Road near Routes 120 and 12 in Volo, IL.
