2005 Champion Takes a Bite Out of the Big Apple with Week Full of Activities

 
WHAT:        With the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series celebrating 25 years of hosting its annual Awards Ceremony week in New York City, NASCAR and Sprint Nextel invite media and fans to see the 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Champion and fellow series drivers at numerous events during the weeklong celebration.

Members of the New York Fire Department team up with the 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Champion, players from the National Hockey League (NHL) and National Football League (NFL) for head-to-head competition in a simulated fire training session. It will be a competition unlike any other.
 
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Victory Lap Presented by Sprint

NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race cars take the streets of Manhattan!  The 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Victory Lap presented by Sprint will commence at 30 Rockefeller Center and wind its way through the streets of New York. Ten NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers will maneuver their 800 horsepower racing machines along the route, with several planned fan-viewing zones along the way.

Start:  Today Show - 35 W. 48th St. (between 5th & 6th Ave)
End:   375 Park Avenue (NASCAR NYC Headquarters)

                   Executives from NASCAR and Sprint Nextel, along with the top-10 drivers in the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, will ring The Opening BellSM as part of the opening ceremonies at the New York Stock Exchange.  
 
 
2005 Champion's Photo Shoot in Times Square

The 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Champion, crew chief and team owner will pose for photos in Times Square with the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Trophy. With the combination of the top NASCAR personalities as well as two race cars, this event is ideal for local television and photography.
                   
                   In addition, Ken Podziba, New York City sports commissioner, will deliver a proclamation from Mayor Bloomberg that Friday, December 1, is NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Day in New York City
