Westport Announces Resignation of Board Member

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--Nov. 1, 20058, 2005--Westport Innovations Inc. (TSX:WPT) today announced that Kiran M. Patel has resigned from Westport's Board of Directors effective immediately for personal reasons.

Mr. Patel has served on Westport's Board since September 2001 and has been Chair of the Audit Committee since 2002. As the former Chief Financial Officer at Solectron Corp and recently appointed Chief Financial Officer of Intuit Inc. , two US listed companies, Mr. Patel played an integral role in overseeing Westport's corporate governance and control processes and practices during a period of rapidly changing and evolving standards in the Canadian regulatory environment. Moreover, having spent much of his career with Cummins Inc., Mr. Patel also brought significant business insight into the automotive industry and OEM relationships.

"We would like to thank Kiran for his valuable contributions to the Board and to the Audit Committee. He has left his mark on both. However, while we are sorry to see him step down, we understand his time constraints with his new role at Intuit," said John Beaulieu, Board Chair.

Mr. Henry F. (Barney) Bauermeister Jr., currently a member of the Board and Audit Committee, has been appointed Audit Chair. Mr. Bauermeister is a Certified Public Accountant (Indiana) and received his bachelors degree from the University of Nebraska where he majored in Accounting and minored in Economics. Mr. Bauermeister has held a number of financial positions within Cummins including the Group Controller position for the Components Group.

David Demers, Westport's CEO, noted, "We are looking forward to Barney's leadership of the Audit Committee and the continuance of our commitment to strong corporate governance and transparency in our disclosures."

Toronto Stock Exchange guidelines recommend that a majority of directors be independent. Corporate governance best practices are increasingly moving to even greater independence for board members. All of Westport's directors, other than the Chief Executive Officer, are independent members of the Board. The Audit Committee is comprised entirely of independent directors.
