Radiant Ride: PPG Industries Supplies Chrysler Group Toledo North Assembly Plant With TRANSSEAL(R) Film
TROY, Mich., Nov. 18, 2005 -- PPG Industries is helping the Chrysler Group to keep the paint on its 2006 Jeep(R) Liberty vehicles sparkling and flawless. PPG Total Service Solutions -- a PPG business that provides manufacturers with products and services for the coatings application process and related chemical management -- has announced that it is supplying the automaker with Groco Specialty Products' TRANSSEAL(R) temporary protective film.
Applied to portions of the Jeep(R) Liberty vehicle body, TRANSSEAL film is a breathable coating designed to protect finished automotive paint surfaces from nicks, scratches and environmental damage during assembly and transit to dealerships.
"This agreement allows us to enhance our total coating system offering by utilizing Groco's innovative TRANSSEAL product, and the Chrysler Group can count on superior protection of its Class A vehicle finishes all the way to the consumer," said Gary M. Dukus, manager, marketing and technology, specialty products for PPG Total Service Solutions.
TRANSSEAL film, which is applied to a vehicle after it has been painted, has no volatile organic compound (VOC) and is removed once the automobile arrives at its destination. The film performs like a skin or membrane, allowing the paint surface to breathe (or out-gas), while protecting the finish from being scratched or environmental damage.
TRANSSEAL film is perforated at a length specific to various product lines to eliminate waste and save time during the application process. It can be used to safely protect one-component, two-component and waterborne paint systems over sheet metal, thermoplastic olefin, reaction injection molding, sheet molding compound, polycarbonate / polybutylene terephthalate, hydrocarbon rubber, thermoplastic polyester resin and other types of painted and molded automotive plastics.
