DENSO Announces New Long-term Global Environmental Policy
New Policy Expands Environmental Preservation Activities
TOKYO, Nov. 16 -- DENSO Corporation recently announced a new long-term environmental policy, "DENSO EcoVision 2015," and its environmental action plans for fiscal years 2006 through 2010, "Environmental Action Plan 2010."
DENSO EcoVision 2015 focuses on:
* Developing environmentally friendly products DENSO is developing environmentally friendly products such as diesel common rail systems that reduce harmful substances in emissions and hybrid vehicle components. To aid in the development of environmentally friendly products, DENSO will introduce an index that can evaluate the environmental impact of products during their life cycle.
* Expanding efforts to reduce CO2 emissions DENSO is expanding efforts to reduce CO2 emissions to group companies around the world. In production activities, DENSO's 2010 target is a global 20 percent reduction in the basic unit of CO2 emissions, compared to its 2000 level. One way to achieve this global target is to introduce energy conservation technology established in domestic plants to overseas plants. It also includes focusing on any and all company activities that generate CO2 emissions, such as procurement and distribution.
* Reducing environmental burden on society DENSO is working to reduce environmentally hazardous substances in products and in manufacturing processes. By the end of 2008, DENSO plans to globally eliminate its use of four substances -. lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium -- by developing alternative technologies and closely working with customers and suppliers around the world. DENSO will promote emission reduction activities during manufacturing according to each country's regulations and business environment.
* Consolidating environmental management 189 DENSO worldwide subsidiaries and affiliates are encouraged to pursue a sustainable society. Each company will develop specific environmental policies and action plans, based on DENSO's EcoVision 2015, while respecting the situations in each region or country.
These four ideas are the framework for DENSO's specific action plans in its "Environmental Action Plan 2010."
"One of DENSO's main priorities is pursuit of a sustainable society through environmental preservation," said Shinro Iwatsuki, senior managing director of DENSO Corporation, responsible for the Production Promotion Center. "This new policy, which is an extension of our previous environmental policy, 'EcoVision 2005,' will help us use the strength of DENSO companies around the world to preserve and protect the environment for future generations."
