Wheels, Inc. Named to 2005 InfoWorld 100
CIO Larry Buettner Leads Award-Winning International Web-based Fleet Management Project
DES PLAINES, Ill., Nov. 15 -- Wheels, Inc., a leader in the multi-billion-dollar fleet-leasing industry, today announced it has been named as a winner in the annual InfoWorld 100 award competition.
The annual awards honor IT projects that demonstrate the most creative use of cutting-edge technologies to further their business goals, according to InfoWorld. Selection criteria require that projects stretch beyond the typical, off-the-shelf solution, using multiple technologies in innovative ways to serve well-defined business goals.
"IT departments continue to learn hard lessons about business realities and realistic ROI," said Eric Knorr, executive editor at large. "The InfoWorld 100 provides a forum for IT managers to get the recognition they deserve for smart projects from an audience of their peers."
Wheels' recognition came as a result of developing and implementing a new technology platform called Fleet.net. The industry-leading system was created to assist the company's European business operation, called Fleet Logistics, to service global customers with optimal management of European fleet costs.
"Fleet.net is a pan-European fleet management solution that takes into consideration a unified European currency and the unique business practices of ten target countries," said Wheels CIO Larry Buettner. "We leveraged the best technologies available to provide customers throughout Europe as well as US companies that are global organizations with the information needed to provide a single view of fleet costs, enabling them to control and manage their costs at an international level.
"It is very gratifying that our IT staff has been recognized by InfoWorld for their innovative work on this major fleet management initiative," Buettner continued. "We are extremely pleased to be included in the 2005 InfoWorld 100."
