FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RANDY RUHLMAN INVITED TO RACE IN SOUTH AFRICA WESBANK V-8 FINALE AT KYALAMI
INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
Greensboro, NC (November 14, 2005) Randy Ruhlman has been invited to drive
in the South Africa Wesbank V-8 Championship race season finale November 26
at the famous Kyalami International Raceway, located just outside of
Johannesburg, South Africa. Ruhlman will be piloting the No. 8, Omega Motor
Spares Chevrolet Corvette for the Correia Racing Team in the South African
Modified Car Association--SAMCAR Series feature. Ruhlman finished second
this year in the Trans-Am Drivers' Championship and was the 2005 winner of
the Trans-Am Series races at the Long Beach Grand Prix and the Cleveland
Grand Prix.
Ruhlman says: "This is an opportunity of a lifetime to go to South Africa
and drive. The track has so much history. It will be fun to go over there
and drive in the SAMCAR Series. We're testing this Monday and Tuesday at
the new Phakisa track, to get the car set up and get me familiar with the
car, then off to Johannesburg for the three-day event at Kyalami. I'm
excited that Danie and Jaco Correia of Correia Racing asked me to come over
and race. It's a dream of mine to be able to drive internationally, and to
be able to race in South Africa at the world famous Kyalami is even better."
Randy Ruhlman brings a wealth of racing experience to his South African
racing drive with Correia Racing. Having driven for Derhaag Motorsports in
the United States and Canada in the Trans-Am Series for the past three
years, Ruhlman ranks fourth overall in Trans-Am history with 90 top-five
finishes. Ruhlman scored two wins last year in his #49 Preformed Line
Products Corvette, finished second in the Driver's Championship and was
third overall in 2004. Ruhlman is also a veteran of ASA and NASCAR short
track series, as well as a winner on the IMSA circuit.
Accompanying Ruhlman to South Africa will be his Trans-Am team owner Jim
Derhaag. Derhaag will be assisting the team as a technical advisor for both
testing and the race. The South African Modified Car Association (SAMCAR)
series cars are similar to Trans-Am Series cars, though with different
engines, gearboxes and tires. The Kyalami Circuit was the site of the South
African Grand Prix for Formula 1 from 1961-1993, seeing greats like Ayrton
Senna, Nigel Mansel, Peter Revson and Gilles Villeneuve. The Wesbank V-8
Championship finale will take place at Kyalami International Raceway on
Thursday, November 24 with the final race getting underway on Saturday,
November 26.
