Christensen Takes Championship in
Legends Road Course Nationals in Sonoma
SONOMA, Calif. (IMMEDIATE RELEASE) - Jeremy Christensen used a last-lap
pass to claim his first-ever championship at Infineon Raceway on
Saturday in the 9th annual Legends Road Course Nationals.
Christensen (Yukon, Okla.) started fourth in the 11-lap main event in
the premier Pro Class, but quickly took the top spot on lap 4 from Bobby
Pugh (Stillwater, Okla.). He swapped the lead several times over the
12-turn, 2.52-mile road course before passing Cottonwood's George
Sheldon Jr. on the final lap. Sheldon Jr. held on for second place, with
Roger Austin Jr. (Noakesville, Virg.) third.
Pole-sitter Corey Christensen suffered engine problems and retired from
the race on the first lap. Sacramento's Steve Fensler Jr., who entered
the weekend leading the national points standings in the Pro Class,
suffered mechanical problems during qualifying on Friday and did not
start the main event.
More than 120 drivers from around the country and the world competed at
Infineon Raceway during the two-day event, which featured five-eighths
scale cars capable of reaching speeds up to 120 mph on the road course.
The event featured competitors from as far away as England and Scotland.
Other main-event winners on Saturday included: Modesto's Randy Raduechel
(Thunder Roadster); Milpitas' Martin McKeefery (Semi-Pro); and Mike Rard
(Masters, Stillwater, Okla.). McKeefery is a 17-year-old high school
student in Milpitas. All main events spanned 11 laps.
