Mindy's Minute - NHRA Report

Moorpark, Calif. - (November 9, 2005) The 2005 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing
Series has officially come to an end. The Automobile Club of Southern
California NHRA Finals were held over the weekend and the awards banquet wrapped the
season on Monday night at the Westin Mission Hills Resort in Palm Springs.
Ringers racers took home three of the four championships in the Professional
categories.
The Pro Stock Motorcycle class saw 15 different lead changes in the points
standings throughout the season.
Andrew Hines gave Vance & Hines their 22nd career championship. It was the
second consecutive championship for Hines himself.
Hines claimed the championship in the first round on Sunday after his
teammate GT Tonglet lost in first round to Mike Berry.
Hines met young gun Ryan Schnitz in the final round. Both Hines and Schnitz
fouled at the line, but Hines was the first to foul, handing the win to
Schnitz. That didn’t matter to Hines as him and his Harley-Davidson team already
started celebrating their championship.
Schnitz’s run was 8.126/121.69 mph.
Greg Anderson wrapped up his third consecutive championship in Pro Stock at
Las Vegas last month; however, Anderson lost in second round on Sunday to
eventual winner Jeg Coughlin.
While Ringers racer Ron Capps didn’t win the Funny Car Championship, he sure
put up one heck of a fight until the end. He was beat in the second round by
Cruz Pedregon and ended his season second in POWERade Funny Car points.
Even though Tony Pedregon wasn’t in the chase for the championship, he ended
his season on a high note by taking the win in the Funny Car class against
Eric Medlen, 4.751/319.22 mph to 145.98/68.73 mph.
What is there left to report about Tony Schumacher’s season? Not a whole
lot. He’s done everything he could do in one season and ended another
championship winning season with a win in Top Fuel over his first year Schumacher
Racing teammate Melanie Troxel.
What looked like Troxel being on her way to her first win, she fouled at the
line giving Shoe a 4.496/324.36 mph victory.
The 2006 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series will kick off during the CARQUEST
Auto PartsNHRA Winternationals at Pomona Raceway, February 9-12.
