NAVTEQ Demonstrates Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) Technology With BMW, Motorola and Volkswagen of America, Inc.

VII Technology Prototype Debuts at 12th Annual ITS World Congress

CHICAGO, Nov. 7 -- NAVTEQ , a leading global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, will demonstrate Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) technologies at the Innovative Mobility Showcase at the 12th annual ITS World Congress taking place November 6 - 10 in San Francisco, CA.

Vehicle Infrastructure Integration is the wireless communication of safety, mobility and commercial information among vehicles and the transportation infrastructure. At the 12th Annual ITS World Congress, NAVTEQ is collaborating with BMW, Motorola and Volkswagen of America, Inc. to demonstrate how VII technology, and NAVTEQ's dynamic data processing capabilities, can enhance driver experience and safety.

At the test track within the Innovative Mobility Showcase, BMW and Volkswagen of America, Inc. vehicle fleets will be hosting prototype vehicles that broadcast vehicle sensor data to the processing center. Once processed, this data will be broadcasted and displayed on VII-enabled navigation systems in prototype vehicles. Motorola will demonstrate the output of this processing through a website that displays the location and severity of road hazards on NAVTEQ(R) maps. NAVTEQ's POI information is also available from the VII infrastructure and will be delivered to Volkswagen of America, Inc.'s vehicle fleet.

BMW, Motorola and Volkswagen of America, Inc., together with the San Francisco Metropolitan Transit Authority (SFMTA), Caltrans, and others, will demonstrate the output of this processing via NAVTEQ hosted web sites. As these live driving demonstrations are taking place, this processing will also be displayed at NAVTEQ's booth and in the TEQ Mobile, a unique technology equipped demonstration vehicle.

Giving drivers access to real-time information about the road network -- from hazardous road conditions to POIs -- is only useful to the driver if it is relevant to his or her specific route. Processing and linking this information to the most accurate maps of the road network is essential to the efficacy of VII systems.
