Steve Hamp Accepts Ford Motor Company Position, Steps Down as President of The Henry Ford
DEARBORN, Mich.--Nov. 4, 2005--Steve Hamp, president of The Henry Ford, accepted a position at Ford Motor Company as vice-president and chief of staff, reporting to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bill Ford. Hamp will resign from The Henry Ford effective November 18, 2005.The Henry Ford Board of Trustees will reconvene within two weeks from today to endorse The Henry Ford's succession plan and approve the next president.
Hamp began his career at The Henry Ford in 1978 and has served as president for the last 10 years. During his tenure, Hamp has overseen a fundamental revision of the history attraction's operating structure, refurbished and expanded the physical plant, launched the Henry Ford Academy, a public high school, initiated a new generation of user experiences and services, restored Greenfield Village and introduced several attractions to the destination's campus including an IMAX(R) theatre, the Benson Ford Research Center and the Ford Rouge Factory Tour.
Under his presidency, The Henry Ford's operating budget grew from $28 million to $54 million in a ten-year span.
In 1999, Hamp was recognized as a Michiganian of the Year by the Detroit News. In 2000, he was honored as the first recipient of the Helen and William Milliken Distinguished Service Award by the Michigan Environmental Council. In 2002, Hamp was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Michigan and the Civic Leader Award from the Governor's Arts Awards.
He is involved in many civic activities and serves on numerous boards for many non-profit organizations, foundations and corporations.
