Red Bull Team Gordon to Campaign Full SCORE Season with Andy
McMillin
For the first time since the 1996 season, when Robby Gordon won five of
seven events and cruised to a SCORE International points’ championship,
Red Bull Team Gordon will again seek a series title by campaigning a
Trophy Truck for the full season in 2006.
Gordon, a two-time winner of the famed Baja 1000 and defending
champion of the Baja 500, will share driving duties with Andy McMillin
in the Baja 500 and Baja 1000, and McMillin will drive the Red Bull/Toyo
Tires truck for Team Gordon in the series’ remaining four races.
McMillin, 18, of Poway, Calif., was the
2004 SCORE Rookie of the Year and is contending for a series
championship as the 2005 season draws to a close.
“As we continue to grow our company in all forms of
motorsports including SCORE, NASCAR, Indy Cars and Dakar, we need to
start building some of our programs around young capable drivers like
Andy,” Gordon said. “Our families (the McMillins and Gordons) have
raced against each other for more than 20 years, and having Andy drive
our truck will allow us to again compete for a championship in the
series that gave me my start in auto racing. Andy obviously has the
potential to become a tremendous race car driver and it’s great to have
him on our team as the first full-time driver we have ever hired at Team
Gordon.”
McMillin is currently third in the SCORE Class 1 points’
standings, trailing his uncle, Mark McMillin, by a slim seven-point
margin and second-place Damen Jefferies by five.
“Basically growing up in a race car with my father (Scott) and
being around off-road racing as much as I have, I have had an
opportunity to watch Robby race against my family and win a lot of races
in the desert,” McMillin said. “It’s a great privilege that he has
selected me to drive with him in the 1000 and the 500 and to drive his
truck the rest of the season. Robby’s trucks are always the class of
the field, and although we have had a lot of success in our own McMillin
Class 1 cars, Trophy Trucks will be a new experience and something the
entire McMillin Racing team is excited to be part of.”
Team Gordon and McMillin Racing will combine forces to support
both the Team Gordon Trophy Truck and the McMillin Racing cars.
