Environmental League of Massachusetts to Auction New 2006
Hybrid Cars at 10th Annual Earth Night
Boston, MA-November 2, 2005-Those looking to beat the high cost
of gas and help the environment in more ways than one will want to be at the
10th annual Earth Night, the gala fundraising party benefiting the
Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM).
Earth Night, set for Saturday evening, November 19, 2005 at the
spectacular Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, features two 2006 hybrid
cars - a Honda Civic and a Toyota Prius - as the centerpiece attractions of
its live auction.
Other terrific items will be auctioned including the chance to sit on the
Bruins' bench during pre-game warm-ups and the chance to ride the Zamboni
between periods, a vacation in the Amazon rainforest, a Holland America
cruise, and a stay in a French castle. Other getaways plus restaurant
dinners, tickets to sporting events, outdoor equipment and more will be part
of the live and silent auctions at Earth Night 2005, Boston's biggest
environmental gala.
"With gas prices boosting the demand for hybrids, we're delighted that the
Earth Night auction will put two more drivers in hybrids," said Earth Night
Chairman Steve Leonard. "At the same time, the bidding will support ELM's
efforts to protect the Massachusetts environment; it's a great situation all
around!"
Earth Night drew more than 600 environmental, business, and
civic leaders last year. The impressive turnout generated more than
$100,000 in support of ELM programs on behalf of Massachusetts' air, water
and land.
This year's Earth Night will also host the 3rd annual Earth Fair, showcasing
environmental products, services, and organizations through a fun and
playful approach. Groups are planning now to develop interactive, creative,
hands-on Earth Fair booths and games, with an eye towards winning the Earth
Fair Blue Ribbon for "Best Earth Fair Activity." The Island Alliance won
last year's top honors with their Boston Harbor Islands "Twister" game,
which brought guests to their hands and knees finding Spectacle Island, the
Brewster Islands and others.
Master of Ceremonies for the evening is WBOS radio personality George
Knight, afternoon drive-time DJ and host of "Sunday Morning Over Easy."
Knight is returning for his third year as Earth Night MC and DJ. "I'm
delighted to be a part of the 10th annual Earth Night," he said, "especially
to help ELM celebrate this milestone with a great party for our corner of
the planet."
