Meridian Technologies receives Honorable Mention for the 2006 Automotive News PACE Award

STRATHROY, Ontario, Nov. 2, 2005 -- Meridian Technologies, the global leader in design, engineering and manufacturing of magnesium high pressure die cast, machined and assembled automotive components, along with Hydro Magnesium, are pleased to announce that the Single Piece Cast Magnesium AE44 Engine Cradle has been awarded Honorable Mention in the 2006 Automotive News PACE awards. The PACE Award (Premier Automotive Supplier' Contribution to Excellence) Program, honors innovative automotive suppliers who rise above the increasing demands and challenges set by today's customers and the rising expectations of consumers. This program has become the industry standard for innovation and excellence and is recognized as a noteworthy credential.

The magnesium cradle found on the Corvette Z06 is the industry's first structural chassis component and an integral part of the vehicle crash management system. This magnesium component provides many benefits such as a 35% weight savings versus the original aluminum design and the single piece component integration replaces large multi-piece assemblies. The high ductility, high temperature alloy developed by Hydro Magnesium also provides a 50/50 front to rear weight distribution for the vehicle.

Kris Pfaehler, Meridian Technologies' Vice President, Business Development & Marketing, notes that, "This industry-first usage of magnesium in a front engine cradle marks a tremendously significant development in the important industry movement to implement material strategies that can both reduce weight and improve vehicle performance."

Meridian Technologies continues to be a technology leader in the development of new magnesium applications to further reduce vehicle weight and increase fuel economy, handling and performance. With 6 manufacturing facilities in 5 countries, that include Eaton Rapids, Michigan and Strathroy, Ontario, and its Global Technology Center located in Strathroy, Ontario, Meridian is the only magnesium die caster with global manufacturing, engineering and business development operations. With 1260 employees worldwide, Meridian is the global market share leader with a diversified product range of Instrument Panel Beams, 4WD Transfer Cases, Transmission Cases, Front End Carriers, Radiator Supports, Seat Frames, Steering Column Supports, Engine Cradles, and other body structure, chassis, and powertrain components.
