XM Satellite Radio Upgrade for New Garmin StreetPilot(TM) Series

The New StreetPilot 2730, 7200 and 7500 Models From Garmin Are the First Portable Navigation Devices to Offer XM NavTraffic Powered by NAVTEQ Traffic With XM Weather and XM Satellite Radio Capability

WASHINGTON, Oct. 31 -- XM Satellite Radio , today announced that Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. , is the first to offer portable navigation devices with real-time XM NavTraffic powered by NAVTEQ Traffic with XM Weather and XM Satellite Radio capabilities in a portable product.

"Garmin is the leader in portable navigation and XM is the leader in satellite-delivered entertainment and data services," said Roderick MacKenzie, XM's VP of Advanced Applications and Services. "The unmatched partnership between Garmin and XM has made the new StreetPilot models the most advanced portable navigation products ever."

"XM gives our customers even more reason to love the new generation of StreetPilot products," said Gary Kelley, Garmin's vice president of marketing. "When designing this new StreetPilot family, we considered possible events that could impede a driver's progress and then created ways to avoid those delays. By seeing traffic and weather delays in advance, a driver can save time by following a route around the delay."

XM capabilities are delivered to the new StreetPilot products through the GXM 30(TM) "Smart Antenna" from Garmin. The GXM 30 antenna is included as standard with the StreetPilot 2730 and as an optional accessory for the StreetPilot 7200 and 7500. The GXM 30, designed and developed by Garmin, is the most advanced XM receiver and antenna combination to date. For maximum portability, the magnetic, waterproof, puck-sized GXM 30 can be placed on the dashboard or the roof of the vehicle.

The StreetPilot 2730 is a compact portable unit with a 3.8" touch screen that can easily be placed on the dashboard of any vehicle for quick and simple installation. The 7200 and 7500 StreetPilot products, with their seven-inch touch screen display, were designed for larger vehicles -- such as RVs, conversion vans, and semi-trucks, but can just as easily be used in any vehicle by those who wish the larger screen size.

XM NavTraffic is the first nationwide satellite-based data traffic information service that enables an overlay of current traffic conditions. Aggregated by NAVTEQ Traffic from multiple sources, the StreetPilot products use this data to automatically calculate and suggest faster alternative routes -- long before traffic starts backing up. Accidents, road construction or other incidents affecting traffic are graphically represented as icons on the navigation map. Information relating to a traffic incident is also available including the precise location, lanes affected, and the predicted duration. Roadways are color-coded to indicate directional traffic flow speed.

Additionally, the new StreetPilot products can receive XM Weather data. Current weather conditions for over 2000 locations and weather forecasts for 162 cities are easily displayed for locations throughout the continental U.S. County storm and flood warnings are also highlighted, so motorists can make prudent driving decisions. XM Weather data is included as part of a subscription to the XM NavTraffic service at no additional cost so drivers receive the benefits of both at no additional monthly subscription. The basic XM weather is not available as a separate stand alone subscription; it is bundled with the XM NavTraffic service.

The StreetPilot products can also offer more than 150 channels of XM Satellite Radio, featuring 100% commercial-free music as well as premier news, sports, talk and entertainment. Users can send XM and navigation audio to their car stereo through the StreetPilot's integrated FM transmitter, 3.5mm stereo output plug, or a speaker built into the DC power supply plug. The StreetPilot 7200 and 7500 also have a built in speaker in the unit for stand alone operation for navigation instruction and XM audio output.

The StreetPilot 2730 has expected availability in the fourth quarter of 2005, with the expected retail price of $1199.00. The unit ships standard with the GXM 30 antenna, integrated FM modulator, City Navigator(TM) North America NT maps pre-loaded, a 12-volt power cable with external speaker, alphanumeric remote control, PC/USB interface cable, AC power adapter, beanbag mount, dash mount, owner's manual and quick reference setup guide.

The unit ships standard with City Navigator North America NT or City Navigator Europe NT maps pre-loaded, a 12-volt power cable, alphanumeric remote control, PC/USB interface cable, AC power adapter, dash mount, owner's manual and quick reference setup guide.
