Cruz and Tony Pedregon Pit Crew Challenge

Pedregon Racing Squares Off at Pit Crew Challenge
 

POMONA, Calif. (Oct. 31, 2005) ­ NHRA Nitro Funny Car driver Cruz Pedregon,
and the Advance Auto Parts Nitro Funny Car team, along with Tony Pedregonıs
Q Racing Nitro Funny Car crew, will participate in the Pit Crew Challenge,
Wed, Nov. 2 at 9:45 am during the 17th annual NHRA Career Opportunities Fair
presented by the U.S. Army at Pomona Raceway.

Competition between the two teams will take place before the beginning of
the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals, the last race of the
2005 POWERade Drag Racing Series season.

More than 5,000 students from local high schools are invited to the
grandstands, while NHRA will entertain them with different events such as
the Pit Crew Challenge. The NHRA, Cruz and Tony Pedregon want to increase
studentsı awareness about career opportunities and the importance of
education towards their professional future.

This year, Cruz Pedregon, winner of the NHRA Funny Car championship in 1992,
heads to Pomona having improved his personal elapsed time to 4.680 seconds,
the second best in Funny Car history. During that same run in Joliet, Ill.,
Pedregon grabbed a career top speed of 330.80 mph. Pedregon made it to the
semifinals at Pomona to open the season, scored a runner up at Houston
Raceway Park and reached the semiıs during the next four races. He also
grabbed the No.1 qualifier, in Englishtown, N.J. and Joliet, Ill.

Tony Pedregon, 2003 NHRA Funny Car champion, will tackle Pomona Raceway
after getting a victory in Reading, Pa., and tying Cruz for the second best
elapsed time in Funny Car history (4.680 seconds). In Chandler, Ariz.,
Pedregon broke Firebird International Racewayıs elapsed time record at 4.703
seconds and grabbed the No.1 qualifier. And at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma,
Calif., Pedregon wrapped up a third No. 1 qualifier, setting a new track
elapsed-time record at 4.759 seconds.

During the first race of the 2005 season at Pomona, Tony Pedregon broke the
elapsed time record with a 4.681-second pass at 323.35 mph and qualified in
the No.1 position during a spectacular effort that ended with the Q car in
the sand box.
