Nissan Production, Sales and Export Results for September 2005
and Fiscal First Half
TOKYO (Oct. 24, 2005) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today
announced production, sales and export results for September and the
six months through September.
Among the highlights, Nissan's global production in the first half of
2005 increased 9.3% to 1,725,041 units in the April-to-September period
compared with a year ago, a record for the first half of a fiscal year.
1. Production
September
Global production totaled 314,106 units in September, up 5.7% compared with
the same month a year ago.
Domestic production fell 12.3% to 119,166 units due to slower sales of the
Cube compact car.
Overseas production increased 21.0% to 194,940 units.
In the U.S., output increased 9.1% to 74,733 units helped by the strong
performance of the Pathfinder SUV.
In the U.K., production increased 4.5% to 31,896 units due to the strong
performance of the Almera compact hatchback.
April-September
Global production in the April-to-September period rose 9.3% to 1,725,041
units, a record for the first half of a fiscal year.
Domestic production fell 2.7% to 692,971 units due to lower output of the
March and Cube compact cars
Overseas production grew 19.3% to 1,032,070 units, an all-time high. It
was also the first time that overseas production reached one million
units in a fiscal half-year period.
In the U.S., production climbed 10.8% to 400,165 units thanks to the
strong performance of the Pathfinder SUV, which commenced local
production in September last year. Production in Mexico totaled 180,736
units, a 14.0% increase over the same period last year, due to the
robust performance of the Sentra compact car. In the U.K., the solid
performance of the Almera compact hatchback pushed production up 4.0%
to 165,756 units. Output in Spain increased 46.8% to 100,455 units amid
the ramp up in production of the new Pathfinder SUV and the new Navara
pickup truck.
2. Sales
September
Domestic registrations in September rose 4.6% to 76,871 units due to
strong sales of the Serena minivan and the Tiida and Note compact cars.
Nissan's domestic-registered vehicle market share totaled 19.6%, up 0.9
percentage points from the same month a year ago.
Nissan's domestic sales including mini-vehicles rose 8.8% to 88,746
units. The company's market share, including such vehicles, totaled
15.7%, up 1.2 percentage points.
In the U.S., sales rose 16.4% to 93,540 units, a record for the month of
September.
Sales in Europe increased by 45.6% to 72,419 units due to strong sales
of the Micra (March in Japan) compact car, Pathfinder SUV and Navara
pickup truck.
April-September
Domestic registrations increased by 11.6% to 363,817 units in the first
half led by strong sales of the Serena minivan and the Tiida and Note
compact cars.
Domestic sales including mini-vehicles rose 14.5% to 420,937 units.
Nissan's market share of domestic registrations rose 1.4 percentage
points to 19.3% in the first half, while its share including
mini-vehicles increased 1.4 percentage points to 15%.
In the U.S., sales rose 16.7% to 571,126 units. Nissan brand sales grew
by 17.8% to 499,989 units, led by strong sales of the Sentra compact
sedan and the Pathfinder SUV. Infiniti brand sales rose 9.7% to 71,137
units due to solid sales of the M45 (Fuga in Japan) luxury sedan.
In Europe, sales grew 14.3% to 312,330 units thanks to the brisk-selling
Almera compact hatchback and Pathfinder SUV.
3. Exports from Japan
September
Nissan's exports in September fell 15.2% compared with last year to 60,478
units.
Exports to North America declined 18.5% to 21,103 units due to lower
shipments of
the 350Z (Fairlady Z in Japan) sports model and the Infiniti FX45/FX35
crossover SUVs. Exports to Europe dropped 53.6% to 6,495 units, amid
lower shipments of the Pickup pickup truck. Exports to Asia fell 14.0%
to 6,723 units because of declining shipments to Thailand.
April-September
Nissan's exports decreased 11.1% to 330,024 units in the first six months
through September.
Exports to North America totaled 111,545 units, down 19.5% compared
with the same period a year ago due to decreased shipments of the
Pathfinder SUV and Infiniti G35 (Skyline in Japan) sports model.
Exports to Europe declined 23.1% to 52,285 units due to a decline in
shipments of the Pickup.
Exports to the Middle East rose 8.4% to 42,846 units and exports to
Latin America jumped 29.0% to 39,983 units, fuelled by increased
shipments of the Pickup. Exports to Asia were down 21.1% to 38,057
units amid declining shipments to China.
