NHRA SOUTHEAST DIVISION FINALE UNDERWAY AT SILVER DOLLAR

	REYNOLDS, Ga. - With National and Divisional Championships still
up for grabs, NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competitors converged on
Silver Dollar Raceway for this weekend's Southeast Division Finale. 
As day one of qualifying at Silver Dollar came to a close, Glen
Treadwell leads the Comp Eliminator field, running 8.419 seconds, 0.532
seconds under the index. Treadwell's 142.96 mph pass leads Larry
Pritchett who is second with an 8.238 second pass, 0.532 seconds under.
Treadwell and Pritchett are 3rd and 4th in the Southeast Division
point's standings coming into this weekend's event. Division point's
leader Mike Saye is qualified fourth.
Mike Gardner used a 7.038 second run at 202.39 mph to take the early
pole position in the TracStar Systems Satellites Top Sportsman class.
The Haymarket, Va., racer is followed by Jerry Barker of Fort Valley,
Ga., in second while son Jeffrey Barker of Warner-Robins, Ga., landed in
the No. 5 position. Jerry ran a 7.049 second, 197.83 mph pass and
Jeffrey clocked in at 7.288 seconds, 189.82 mph. 
Everett Hill of Fayetteville, Ga., leads the Super Stock class,
qualifying No. 1 with a pass of 10.735 seconds, 1.165 seconds under the
index in his '64 Mustang. Hill is followed by Dave Layer running 10.339
seconds, 1.161 seconds under. 
Fellow Super Stock racers Andy Fogle, Joe LoCicero, and Hugh Meeks are
also in competition at Silver Dollar this weekend and are all in a
battle for the NHRA Lucas Oil Super Stock National Championship.
In Stock Eliminator, Johnny Fisher is on top with a lap of 11.654
seconds, 1.096 under the index and is followed by John Livingston of
Murfreesboro, Tenn., at 11.549 seconds, 1.051 under. Savannah, Ga.,
racer Mike Mayhew is currently sixth in the 32-car field.
	Racing continues Saturday at 9 a.m. with Top Alcohol Dragsters
and Top Alcohol Funny Cars qualifying at 4 and 7 p.m.  Gates open at 8
a.m. Tickets are $20 Saturday and $20 on Sunday.  For more information,
