MetroPCS Train Frees Oakland Fans from Gas and Driving Stress
Capitol Corridor Tailgate Train Now Stops at Oakland's McAfee Coliseum
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Oct. 19 -- MetroPCS Communications, Inc., announced the early success of its partnership with Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority on the 2005-2006 Tailgate Train. Entercom radio station KXRQ "98 Rock" 98.5 FM is also a partner.
Now in its sixth year, the Capitol Corridor Tailgate Train, this year presented by MetroPCS, is making the "party pilgrimage" to all Sunday Oakland professional football home games at McAfee Coliseum. Unlike years past, the MetroPCS Tailgate Train now allows passengers to get off the train within 25 feet of the parking lot at McAfee Coliseum at the new "Oakland Coliseum" train platform. Last year's Tailgate Train passengers de-trained at the Richmond train station and took BART to the coliseum.
"We're happy to help Oakland fans find a way to save money on gas, be safe and have a good time," said Corey Linquist, vice president and general manager of the MetroPCS Sacramento market. "The Capitol Corridor route is a great place to display our continuous wireless phone coverage from Sacramento to the Bay Area."
The MetroPCS Tailgate Train (Capitol Corridor train #729) officially starts at the Downtown Sacramento Amtrak station at 401 I Street, at the corner of 5th and I Street. The Tailgate Train departs from Sacramento at 9:10am for all home games. However, riders can board the train anywhere along the route. Riders can purchase tickets at Capitol Corridor stations or online at capitolcorridor.org.
KRXQ's '98 Rock Jocks' meet tailgaters at the station and ride the train with the Oakland fans all the way to the Coliseum. Oakland Tailgate Train riders have the chance to win great prizes, receive football-related giveaway items from MetroPCS and '98 Rock' and buy food and drinks in the Cafe Car. The designated MetroPCS Tailgate Train also picks up regular passengers and football fans from cities all along the route traveling to McAfee Coliseum.
"Our ridership has reached record levels this year and we're excited to partner with MetroPCS to bring our passengers another great reason to take the train to the game," said Gene Skoropowski, Managing Director of the Capitol Corridor service. Ridership on the Capitol Corridor route has increased 8.1% over last year's numbers.
The MetroPCS tailgate train will be traveling to the following Oakland Raiders home games: October 23rd vs. Buffalo, November 13th vs. Denver, November 27th vs. Miami, and December 18th vs. Cleveland.
