Wyeth Selected as One of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Best Workplaces for Commuters for Second Consecutive Year
MADISON, N.J., Oct. 19, 2005 -- Wyeth announced today that it has been selected for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) annual list of "Best Workplaces for Commuters" for the second consecutive year. The EPA recognizes the top 20 "Fortune 500" Companies who provide superior commuter benefits, such as subsidized transit/vanpool passes, telework programs, or shuttles to their employees.
The EPA has recognized Wyeth facilities in Collegeville and Great Valley, Pennsylvania; Madison and Princeton, New Jersey; Sanford, North Carolina; and Andover and Cambridge, Massachusetts as locations that provide the highest level of commuting options for employees.
Wyeth's use of commuter benefits increased dramatically during 2005. The Company's carpool program has been growing steadily and added approximately 10 new carpools per month.
The Wyeth BioPharma site in Andover, Massachusetts provides employees with subsidized commuter rail, subway and bus passes as well as free door-to-door shuttle service from employees' homes to work in four neighboring towns. The Company also offers a progressive car pool program, including preferred parking.
The Wyeth Commuter Assistance Center (CAC) was established in May 2001 at the Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Headquarters site in Collegeville and Great Valley, Pennsylvania and coordinates transportation and commuter programs made available to more than 4,000 employees. A socially responsible and environmentally conscious program, the CAC has continued to reduce road congestion and vehicle emissions by providing Wyeth employees with alternative ways of commuting to work.
Other participating Wyeth sites provide a wide array of commuter benefits that may include a progressive car pool program with preferred parking, a shuttle service to and from public transportation and on-site facilities to accommodate bicycle and walking commuters (e.g., shower, cafeteria and dry cleaning services) as well as supplying an emergency ride home for commuters if needed. Some Company facilities have also begun to replace gasoline- powered vehicles with battery-powered electric vehicles, while others are exploring the possibility of using natural gas vehicles.
Nationally, the actions of Best Workplaces for Commuters Companies are resulting in the annual reduction of 3 billion miles of drive-alone commuting, saving 146 million gallons of gasoline.
