Behr Earns Cummins Award For Continuous Improvement

TROY, Mich., Oct. 12, 2005 -- Behr Group has received its first Cummins Engine Supplier Continuous Improvement Award for redesigning its EGR- cooler production line to increase production capacity at the company's Pforzheim factory in Germany.

"The Cummins Engine award is a tremendous achievement for Behr," said Dr. Markus Flik, Behr Group CEO. "It recognizes our ability to improve production efficiencies."

"Increased availability of heavy-duty EGR coolers was an important objective for Cummins," noted Greg Krueger, purchasing manager for Cummins Engine Business. "Behr should feel good about the work that they did to improve the efficiency of their EGR cooler production line."

An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler is a device used on diesel engines that works in conjunction with the EGR system to reduce nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions. It works by cooling the exhaust gases that go back into the engine intake manifold. The EGR system lowers the amount of oxygen in the cylinder and the combustion temperature, thus reducing NOx.

Behr earlier was selected with other suppliers to take part in Cummins' new, voluntary Annual Supplier Continuous Improvement and Recognition Program. To participate, Behr submitted information on various improvement activities developed for Cummins since July 2004. The award was presented to Behr at the Cummins Supplier Conference held recently at the engine manufacturer's headquarters in Columbus, Ind.
