New Goodyear Hose Helps Barens Bail Puddles
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., Oct. 11, 2005 -- Goodyear Engineered Products and Barens, Inc., have joined forces to fight fluid buildup, keeping surfaces cleaner and feet drier.

Goodyear SpiraFlow pressure washer hose, with its non-pooling hydra- channel design, allows water and cleaning fluids to drain beneath it, rather than build up behind it, according to Keith Collett, marketing manager for Goodyear's industrial hose business.
"Fluids dam up behind a conventional hose's smooth surface," said Collett. "I suspect everyone has experienced stepping in a hose-generated puddle at one time or another."
While the big splash and accompanying wet feet and pants are frustrating, the biggest problem is the residue left behind. "When the surface dries, there's a long, crescent-shaped dusting of dirt and soap residue left behind," he said.
An additional benefit is the reduction of "clean spots," which occur when pooled water and cleaning fluids leave a clean mark on a surface not commissioned for cleanup. "This generally means the customer will require the contractor to clean the remainder of the surface free-of-charge," said Collett.
Designed exclusively for the pressure washer industry, SpiraFlow with its spiral-grooved surface breaks the seal between the hose and surface being cleaned, allowing cleaning fluids and dirt to pass under the hose.
Based outside Pittsburgh, in Seneca, Pa., Barens raised the anti-pooling concept with Goodyear and the hose maker responded with the unique hose design and manufacturing process that tackles the issue. "We welcomed the opportunity to work with one of the premiere wholesale suppliers of parts and accessories in the pressure washer industry," said Collett.
He said the two companies have been serving the pressure washer industry together for 14 years.
There's an added bonus, according to Barens Vice President Frank Shaderline.
"SpiraFlow's unique design and flexible heavy-duty cover," he explained, "reduces friction and wear, because less hose surface is in contact with the ground. That can mean a longer-lasting hose for end-users, compared to conventional smooth-cover hose that places the entire length of the hose on the ground."
The hose targets commercial applications, including surface cleaning for automotive service centers, gas stations and parking decks and lots, as well as food industry wash-down processes for dairy, poultry and beef operations.
The 3/8th-inch inside diameter hose has a 4,000-psi rating and is available in five lengths, ranging from 50- to 200-feet. Available colors are black and non-marking blue or gray.
Barens is the exclusive distributor of SpiraFlow original equipment and replacement sales for one year. Goodyear will then have rights to expand SpiraFlow markets through additional distribution channels.
