SHENANDOAH SHOWERS FORCE CAROLINA/VIRGINIA FOCUS
RESCHEDULING; FRIENDSHIP UP SUNDAY
INDIANAPOLIS – Rain forced the postponement of another USAC
Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus Midget Car Series event, rescheduling the
season finale a week after this Sunday’s scheduled events.
Friendship Motor Speedway in Elkin, N.C., which was to host the season
finale Sunday, will now showcase the Focus Midgets in a tight battle which
could severely alter the points chase or decide the championship.
Chase Scott of Concord, N.C. leads Robbie Ray of Davenport, Iowa by 59
points heading to Elkin. Scott three weeks ago took his first career dirt
race in the National Ford Focus Midget Car Series championship at Lima,
Ohio, but Ray followed suit a day later by winning at Anderson, Ind. Ray
also claimed the final race of the USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget Car Series
season Sunday at Anderson. Scott has won the last three Focus features he’s
made.
The pair has combined to take over half of this season’s Carolina/Virginia
points races. Ray won the only other Friendship Focus race this season,
while Scott finished third.
Friendship relinquished the season finale when rains late last week forced
the postponement of Saturday’s twin 25-lappers at Shenandoah Speedway in
Shenandoah, Va. The 3/8-mile track will now host the races Oct. 22. Scott
won a Shenandoah feature in September, the last time the series competed.
