SEVERANCE, AUSTIN, STONE PICK UP WINS AT CHAMPION RACEWAY; OTHERS HAVE TO
WAIT ANOTHER DAY TO EARN TROPHIES

            EAGLE POINT, Ore. - Rain has extended the last NHRA Northwest
Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event of 2005.  Eliminations in all 10
categories were slated to be complete Saturday but only Top Alcohol
Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car and Comp Eliminator went to the final
rounds.  The remaining classes are scheduled to resume eliminations Sunday
morning at 9 a.m.  

Joey Severance earned his first Top Alcohol Dragster win of the year, and in
Top Alcohol Funny Car, Bucky Austin marked his third win.  Michael Stone of
Tulare, Calif., also scored this third win of the season in Comp Eliminator.
Stone beat Medford resident Mark Stewart in the final.

            Severance won the final on a hole-shot with a .002 reaction time
(.000 is a perfect reaction time).  The Spanaway, Wash., resident ran 5.469
seconds at 259.88 mph to beat hometown favorite Mike Austin of Medford who
made a 5.449-second, 263.49 mph pass.  Severance was on his game at the
starting line all day.  In the first round of eliminations his reaction time
was .011 and in the semis it was .006. 

            For the division's reigning Funny Car Champ, Bucky Austin, it
was his fifth final-round appearance of the season and the win bolsters his
chances of taking his fourth consecutive title (eighth overall).  The Fife,
Wash., racer took on Hank Coolidge, Sunburst, Mont., in the final.  Austin's
5.844-second, 250.00 mph effort was more than enough to cover Coolidge who
slowed to a 6.04-second, 153.13 mph pass.

            The top qualifiers in other classes were Bob Mazzolini,
Riverside, Calif., in Super Stock; Tommy Gaynor, Vancouver, Wash., in Stock
Eliminator; Brett Dresen, Brookings, Ore., in Top Comp; and Brett Hordemann,
Spokane, Wash., in Sportsman Motorcycle.
