IRWINDALE PUBLIC SERVANT PAT MIRANDA ... REMEMBERED
THE SPEEDWAY SALUTES THE LATE “PAT” MIRANDA
“HE WAS ALWAYS TRUE TO HIS WORD, AND A FRIEND”
Irwindale, Calif. “Everyone at Irwindale Speedway was sadden at the news of Pat Miranda's passing, he was always to his word, and a friend,” said Speedway Vice President Bob DeFazio commenting on the September 29 death of Patricio “Pat “ Miranda who served as Mayor of Irwindale when the track was opened in 1999. “Pat was a man of few words and great conviction, his leadership was one of the strong building blocks of the City of Irwindale.”
“Pat Miranda's service to the community began well before we came on the scene in 1997. By the time we got here, with plans for the Speedway complex Pat was well on his way to setting his record of 44 years in public office here in Irwindale,” said DeFazio. “He was always fair with us, but that's not to say he never held back on asking the tough questions. Mr. Miranda was first, last, and always on the side of the City of Irwindale and the people who live there.”
“Pat was at the Speedway with his wife Mercy at a NASCAR race just a few weeks ago. They both enjoyed coming to the track, as much for having a night out with friends as for the actual racing, I think,” DeFazio explained. “He'll be missed very much by his extended family and the whole community … We must note that the Speedway has lost a real friend.
“We were doubly saddened by the even more recent news of Mercy Miranda's death. She passed away only three days after her husband. They were a wonderful pair who were happily married for over 50 years,” said DeFazio. “We'll have a special moment of silence for both of them before this week's races.”
